Book clubs, rec leagues, drinks, organized rides – these are just a few ways we connect and share with friends. Soon, you will be able to add The Commissary Workshops: a quarterly series with a focus on food production and community building in the fashion of the old community barn raising. Some food projects are just better when done with more hands and friendly conversation.
Each quarter, we’ll provide the ingredients, tools, instruction, recipes, snacks, and space (that you are helping us build). You get to join us to prepare, assemble and finish each project. At the end of each workshop, you will leave with half of the fruits of your labor and the other half will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio.
Winter: Tamalada! We will work together to make a variety of tamales (including vegetarian and gluten free tamales) while sharing stories, tasks, and guacamole.
Spring: Just in time for peas, asparagus, and herbs, we will work together on fresh pasta and ravioli making (including vegetarian raviolis and gluten free pastas).
Summer: Let’s pickle everything! With this workshop, we can make quick and vinegar-brined pickles to take home and could start the process of salt-brined or fermented pickles. Types of pickles would depend on seasonal availability but could include garlic scapes, peppers, green fruits, and cucumbers.
Fall: Freezer pies are single serving pies prepared in one cup jars. They go from freezer to the table in less than an hour, making them perfect for dinner parties and gifts or extending the taste of summer into winter.
Supporters of our Kickstarter at this level will receive a Commissary t-shirt, sticker, and will join our Wooden Spoon collection.
